The State Library of Iowa actively champions libraries. Our two roles are improving library services in Iowa and delivering specialized information services to state government and to Iowans. Our mission: the State Library of Iowa provides leadership for Iowa libraries and expands access to information for Iowans.
The Main and Law libraries are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.
The Law Library is located on the second floor in the State Capitol Building at 1007 E. Grand Ave. in Des Moines, Iowa.
Other State Library services are located in the Ola Babcock Miller Building (Old Historical Building) on the northwest corner of E. 12th and Grand Ave.
- Driving east on I-235, take the 6th St/Penn Ave. exit on the right (just over the river). Turn right (south) on 6th St. Stay in left lane. Turn left (east) on Des Moines St. and drive to E. 12th. Turn right (south) on E. 12th. The Miller Building will be on your right. Parking is available behind the building. The Capitol Building is across Grand Ave. to the south.
- Driving west on I-235, take the E. 14th St. exit. At E. 14th, turn left (south). Turn right (west) on Des Moines St. Turn left on E. 12th. The Miller Building (dome) will be on your right by the Jesse Parker Building. Parking is available behind the building. The Capitol Building is across Grand Ave. to the south.

Parking is available at the Miller Building on the north side of the building and in the visitor parking lot on the corner of E. 13th and Grand. At the Capitol Building there are visitor parking lots to the east and to the south of the building.
At the Miller Building there is a ramp located on the north side of the building. At the Capitol Building the public entrance on the south side of the building is handicapped accessible.
