The State Library of Iowa actively champions libraries. Our two roles are improving library services in Iowa and delivering specialized information services to state government and to Iowans.
Our mission: the State Library of Iowa provides leadership for Iowa libraries and expands access to information for Iowans.
The Main and Law libraries are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.
State Library services and administrative offices are located in the Main Library in the Ola Babcock Miller Building (Old Historical Building) on the northwest corner of E. 12th and Grand Ave.
The Law Library is located on the second floor in the State Capitol Building at 1007 E. Grand Ave. in Des Moines, Iowa.
Six District Offices are located throughout the state to serve libraries within each district.
Parking is available at the Miller Building on the north side of the building (Lot 11) and in the visitor parking lot on the corner of E. 13th and Grand (Lot 16). At the Capitol Building there are visitor parking lots to the east and to the south of the building (Lots 15, 6, and 7).
A handicap accessible ramp is available on the north side of the Miller Building. At the Capitol, the public entrance on the south side is accessible.
