Governor restores Infrastructure funds to libraries

On June 12, Governor Tom Vilsack signed House File 2627, the FY03 state appropriations bill, and restored the $600,000 in Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure funds to libraries. In his letter to Secretary of State Chet Culver, the Governor wrote:

"....I am also pleased to restore $600,000 to the Enrich Iowa Libraries program. ...Quality libraries are a key component of the educational infrastructure for Iowa's children. A reduction in funding to this important initiative would stifle the progress this administration has made in improving educational opportunities for Iowa's children."
