Book Selected for All Iowa Reads 2003

Last modified March 28, 2006 08:40 PM

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger has been selected for All Iowa Reads 2003, a project of the Iowa Center for the Book.

The purpose of All Iowa Reads 2003 is to encourage the citizens of Iowa to read and to talk together about what they are reading by providing materials to encourage and support the statewide reading of a single title in the same year.

The planning group for All Iowa Reads 2003 includes representatives from the academic, public, and school library communities, as well as the bookseller and publishing communities. These includes representatives from Humanities Iowa, the State Library, Iowa City Public Library, Council Bluffs Public Library, the State Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, the State Historical Society, Iowa State University Library, the University of Iowa Press, Southern Prairie Area Education Agency, and River Lights Bookstore.

The planning group will be developing resources for use by all these communities as they participate in All Iowa Reads 2003. A website is in development, with publicity materials, graphics, and discussion materials. The publisher is supplying reading discussion guides at no cost.

Peace Like a River is published by Grove Press. It has been named to the Best Books of 2001 lists by Time Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. The book is a Publisher’s Weekly bestseller, as well as being listed as a bestseller in many newspapers, including the Boston Globe, and the Denver Post.

More information about All Iowa Reads 2003 will be forthcoming.
