New Library Standards Approved
At their August 3 meeting, the Iowa Commission of Libraries approved the 4th edition of In Service to Iowa: Public Library Measures of Quality. The measures will go into effect on October 1, 2004.
The Standards Advisory Task Force and the State Library developed the 4th edition and there were two information sessions for librarians on the ICN. The voluntary Accreditation and Standards Program encourages the ongoing development of high quality library services in Iowa. There are 525 public libraries (96.6%) participating in the Accreditation and Standards Program by having a current application and report form on file. There are currently 266 accredited public libraries.
More information, including a copy of the new standards, will be sent to libraries as soon as they are printed. To view a copy of the new standards on the web, go to www.silo.lib.ia.us and click on “For and About Iowa Libraries” and then “Accreditation and Standards.”
