Researching Patent and Trademark Information:  A Seminar for Inventors and Entrepreneurs

Have you ever come up with a brilliant idea -- something that solves a problem or makes things easier to do?  What do you do with it and how do you protect it?

Two experts from the United State Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) are coming to the State Library of Iowa on May 4 to bring hope to inventors and shed light on the perplexities of the patent process.  The State Library's Patent & Trademark Depository Library is hosting the event.

Attendees will learn how to get a patent or trademark, and find out the differences and benefits of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will cover:

  • How to conduct a patent search
  • Effective trademark searching
  • Resources for inventors
  • Patent and Trademark Depository Library services

Space is limited.  To register, call 515-281-4105, 1-800-248-4483 or e-mail is@lib.state.ia.us.  If registering by e-mail, include your name and telephone number.

The State Library is located in the Ola Babcock Miller Building, 1112 E. Grand Avenue, Des Moines.  (The domed building sits on the corner of E. 12th and Grand Ave.)  Free parking is available behind the building, as well as on the corner of E. 13th St. and Grand Ave.

Lunch will be on your own.
