Surveys available April 15, 2006

The State Library of Iowa, with the endorsement of the Department of Education and the Area Education Agency media directors, is beginning its fifth annual survey of Iowa school libraries.  This survey requests information about school library media center service hours, staffing, staff activities, technology, expenditures, usage, collections, services, and partnerships with public libraries and AEAs.

The survey is now available. The survey must be completed electronically.  Instructions with each school library's password have been mailed directly to the school library.

According to a letter from Mary Wegner, State Librarian, and Judy Jeffrey, Director,Iowa Dept. of Education, to all Iowa school principals, "School libraries staffed by qualified school librarians have a measurable impact on student achievement.  A substantial body of research since 1990 demonstrates the importance of school libraries to test scores and students' education."  To read more about the impact of school libraries, visit the State Library's school library web page.
