New Study: Today's Public Libraries are Thriving Technology Hubs that Millions Rely on for First or Only Choice for Internet Access

Lots of good information can be found about training offered on public Internet computers.  The study, "Public Libraries and the Internet 2006," was conducted by the Information Use Management and Policy Institute at Florida State University and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the American Library Association.

Some interesting findings include: 

• "The states where the highest percentages of library outlets connect to the Internet using an Internet Service Provide are Iowa (90.9%) and Kentucky (93.5%)."

• "The connection speed is sufficient to meet patron needs at all times in the highest percentages of public library outlets in Georgia (80.5%), Iowa (62.2%) and New Hampshire (70.6%)."
