SILO Interlibrary Loan Changes

Last modified January 08, 2007 03:21 PM

Updates to the ILL system will aid clean-up of the Locator

The SILO Interlibrary Loan System and the Iowa Locator have recently been updated. These changes will make it easier for library staff to request non-print materials and will help clean-up the Iowa Locator.

Library staff can now report catalog record errors through the ILL system by clicking on a button. The record is sent to State Library staff who repair or replace the record.  Automatic deletion of holdings records now occurs when library staff respond to a request with a "Do Not Own" reply, indicating that the library no longer owns the item. That library's holding information is deleted from the record so it won't receive a request again. An addition, library staff can now enter policy information about loaning Audio/Musical in CD or cassette formats, and videos in VHS or DVD format.  Another change is that the lending queue is emptied when library staff suspend ILL activity for the library.

Iowa Locator Statistics:

  • 4,585,770 million titles
  • 15,914,396 holdings
  • The regular print hardcover version of "The Bridges of Madison County" has the most holdings with 399 libraries owning that book.
  • 703 libraries used the Iowa Locator and the SILO Interlibrary Loan system to do 106,000 requests from October 2005 through September 2006.
