BCR Director Visits Iowa
Brenda Bailey-Hainer plans visits to all BCR states
The State Library welcomed Brenda Bailey-Hainer to Iowa where she visited with staff and other librarians in Iowa.
Bailey-Hainer has been executive director of the Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR) since July 2006. Part of her duties include implementing new services and developing opportunities for cooperation with other library consortia. She represents BCR member libraries' interests in local, state, regional and national organizations.
In the mid-80s, she was employed by Morningside College in Sioux City. She has received many honors over the years, including the Mountain Plains Library Association President's Board Choice Award in 2005. She was named one of the 2002 "Movers and Shakers" by Library Journal, and received the 2001 Librarian of the Year award by the Colorado Library Association.
The Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR) is a nonprofit, multistate library cooperative that has served the library community since its founding in 1935, providing cost-effective library and information services. Today BCR serves more than 1,086 voting-member librariesin 42 states, Canada and Guam. Agreements with the state library agencies in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming allow any library located in those states to use BCR services as a member institution.
BCR is governed by a Board of Trustees representing all member states and various types of libraries — academic, school, public, research and special libraries. BCR serves member libraries by:
- Helping them share information resources
- Providing libraries with access to information services
- Developing and promoting new technologies for information organization
- Delivering and carrying out training and technical assistance in the use of information services
