Another New State Library Staffer Arrives

Last modified April 07, 2008 02:13 PM

The State Library welcomes Jay Peterson, a new consultant in Library Development.

Jay Peterson joined the State Library on March 31.  He will act as Iowa's e-rate coordinator, manage the annual school library survey and statewide database programs, as well as participate in the Iowa Educator's Consortium.  Jay will also edit the grants-for-libraries Web page on the State Library's Web site.

For the past two years, Jay worked as the consortium librarian for the Kansas City Library Consortium.   KCLC provided a shared library automation system for 28 libraries across Missouri and Kansas.  In that position, he worked with large public library systems, universities, school libraries, and rural public libraries.  He also gained experience in marketing and project management, as well as system administration.

Before that, Jay was a copy cataloger for five years at Midwestern University, an osteopathic medical school in Downers Grove, IL. While there, he completed his masters in library and information science at Dominican University in River Forest, IL.

I received his bachelor of science degree in history at Truman State University, Kirksville, MO.  Jay is  originally from Bolingbrook, Illinois.

"I am very excited to be working for the State Library of Iowa," said Jay.  "I believe in the mission of libraries and the vital roll that they play in communities everywhere.  I look forward to working with libraries across this state and providing opportunities for technological innovations that lead to library growth.  I think most people would say that I am very talkative and I love to meet new people so please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself."
