CBS News Airs from State Law Library
The State Library worked with CBS News to use the law library.
CBS news anchor Katie Couric and "Early Show" host Harry Smith took advantage of the beautiful law library in the State Capitol January 2 and 3 to report on the Iowa Caucuses.
"We love to come out here. The law library is a spectacular room in the most beautiful capitol in the country," said Jay Fishkin, production manager for CBS News.
CBS used the law library during Iowa caucuses in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. In 1992, ABC News broadcast from the library.
Said State Librarian Mary Wegner, "The State Library is delighted that CBS News is once again broadcasting from our law library. It is open to the public and we are pleased to showcase this beautiful and historic public space.
"The law library is more beautiful than ever because we recently reorganized its interior space to enhance customer service and more closely resemble the original grandeur of the room."
Presidential candidates Mike Huckabee, John Edwards and Fred Thompson were interviewed by Smith on Thursday morning.
Workers began setting up the electrical generators outside the Capitol on December 28. Work continued inside the library every day to prepare for the first live televised news show with Couric at 5:30 p.m. on January 2.
