State Library Announces New Staffer

Last modified March 24, 2008 03:41 PM

Tim Skeers brings a lot of experience to his new job as a cataloger for the State Library.

Tim Skeers, recently of Santa Fe, NM, has joined the State Library staff as a cataloger.  He grew up on a farm northwest of Des Moines (now known as Urbandale) and graduated from Drake University.  He later attended library school at the University of Illinois where he had an assistantship in the Government Documents Department.

He returned to Drake for a while as a serials librarian.  He then moved to Northern Illinois University to pursue a documents job, and later came back to Des Moines to work at a variety of jobs before moving to Las Vegas to work as a government publications librarian at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  He spent the past 3 1/2 years as the government documents cataloger at the New Mexico State Library.

"It’s great to be at the State Library of Iowa," said Tim. "Being a native Iowan, coming here is a sort of homecoming from a long journey that has taken me to the desert Southwest as well as to our neighbor to the east.  I'm looking forward to being in the Des Moines community again."
