Last modified October 10, 2008 09:12 AM

"The Engaged Library" will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. November 13 via the ICN.

On Thursday, November 13, 5:30 to 7 p.m., the State Library is sponsoring The Engaged Library for library trustees, directors and city officials.  We are working with the Iowa League of Cities to invite city officials.  Please feel free to extend a personal invitation to your city officials.

Engaged Library Description:  No longer a passive repository of books and information…, the new library is an active and responsive part of the community and an agent for change.”  [Better Together: Restoring the American Community, Putnam and Feldstein, 2003]  During the program we will look at what it means to be an engaged library and explore ways the library can play an essential role in building a vibrant community.  The program will include an interview with city leaders from Hawarden who discuss the library's active role in their community.  The evening will also include a brief overview of Iowa’s Open Meeting Law which applies to library boards.

Handouts: Please print your own handouts and bring them with you: Pages 34-44.
