State Library Welcomes Scott Dermont to Library Development

Last modified September 09, 2008 09:29 AM

Scott started as a Library Development Consultant on September 8, 2008

Scott Dermont left the Ames Public Library on September 5 and became a Library Development Consultant for the State Library the following Monday.

In Ames, Scott served in many capacities, including maintaining the library's Internet resources such as online subscription databases; overseeing Web site maintenance; coordinating adult programming; serving as the library's backup automation specialist; providing staff and customer training; and managing the non-print collection.  He also compiled, manipulated and analyzed a number of library statistics.

Scott has a masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His responsibilities at the State Library include:

  • administering the public library standards and accreditation program;
  • overseeing the collection, analysis and publication of Iowa library statistics; and
  • providing public libraries with training and consulting on library services for older adults.

This last responsibility acknowledges Iowa's aging population.  The number of children in Iowa is shrinking while the population age of 40+ increases.  It is also a response to Iowa librarians' request for more training in this area.

Scott is traveling with State Library staff during Town Meetings later this month.  Please be sure to say "hello."
