How many of us feel like there is so much to learn and so little time to learn it? For certain, managing public libraries presents a considerable learning curve as we work to build informative collections, deliver enjoyable programs, and incorporate needed technologies. Luckily, there is ample training available to library staff and boards — from Iowa Library Services, for starters! Additionally, there is another important way to continue to learn and succeed on the job — by building Personal Learning Networks.
Brandie Ledford, Sac City Public Library Director, leads this class in encouraging Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) Essentially, PLNs are comprised of people, agencies, and websites that we rely on to stay current and informed. Family, friends, and colleagues rightly top the list, along with Facebook & Twitter posts. Brandie will share her strategies for on-the-job learning with “5 Steps to Setting Up a Personal Learning Network,” including finding favorite blogs and using iGoogle as a great way to gather your favorite PLN resources in one spot. Plus…a look at the “7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners.”
