"The library became my only friend," said a man who came to America with limited English abilities. He found comfort in a public library because it carried a collection of books in his native language. Learn how your library can provide services for non-English speaking persons in a variety of ways - often without knowing the other language or investing a lot of money.
Maryann Mori, Iowa Library Services, Central District, will moderate this session that features a panel of four librarians who provide services for large groups of diverse populations, including various ethnic groups and deaf cultures. Panelists include Linda Roe (Des Moines), Deb McKeown, (Norelius Community Library-Denison), Janette McMahon (West Liberty), and Ann Weston (Northbrook, IL).
The session will include an hour of continuing education programming followed by an hour long roundtable discussion.
