A library Friends group consists of motivated people in a community who understand the value and benefits of the library. They volunteer their time, services and support to enhance library services. Working in concert with the library director and board, Friends groups raise money to purchase books, equipment and other items for the library; plan and carry out special events; volunteer at the library; advocate for the library.
This session will give you the information you need to start a library Friends group. Topics include developing a mission for the Friends group; establishing good communication among the Friends, library director and board; the Friends' nonprofit status, membership drives, fundraising and advocacy.
