Iowa Library Services (IaLS) is pleased to announce that LearningExpress has been chosen as the workforce-related online resource which will be made available to all public and academic libraries in Iowa, effective January 1. In the last legislative session, the legislature directed Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) to provide $150,000 in funding to IaLS “for the purpose of licensing an online resource which prepares persons to succeed in the workplace through programs which improve job skills and vocational test-taking abilities."
LearningExpress was selected through the state’s formal RFP process. Kerry Koonce, Communications Director for IWD, served on the RFP evaluation team along with IaLs staffers Jay Peterson, Marie Harms and State Librarian Mary Wegner. We are all very pleased with the selection of LearningExpress and excited about what it will offer to all Iowans. Thanks to the funding from IWD, LearningExpress will be available at no charge to all Iowa public and academic libraries for all of 2013.
LearningExpress Library is the primary element of this online resource. It’s an interactive online platform that provides the most comprehensive selection of career and academic resources available to empower people for job preparation, career advancement, college readiness, academic success, and skills mastery in math, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. More than a database, LearningExpress Library™ helps entire communities jumpstart careers and education. Additional features of LearningExpress include Job & Career Accelerator, software tutorials, and introductory training courses on how to use a computer, search the Internet and take advantage of social networking.
Implementation details will be available soon. All of us at Iowa Library Services are looking forward to working with Iowa’s public and academic libraries, as well as Iowa Workforce Development, to make this high quality resource available to all Iowans.
