Wegner meets with Education appropriations subcommittee
February 14, 2013
State Librarian Mary Wegner was invited to speak to the Joint Education Appropriations Subcommittee on February 14 in the Capitol.
She talked about the many services and programs offered through Iowa Library Services (IaLS) that help Iowa's 544 public libraries serve the citizens of Iowa, including LearningExpress Library; online books, magazines and databases; continuing education and consulting; and technology support for Iowa librarians. Other topics she mentioned were the Summer Library Program, the State Data Center, the Law Library, Iowa Publications Online and the Iowa Center for the Book.
Wegner also discussed how past cuts to IaLS have minimized or completely deleted services previously offered. She asked for their support of the Governor's recommended increase of $500,000 to the IaLS budget, and requested additional funding to restore the Enrich Iowa program and the IaLS budget to FY09 levels.
