Overseeing the Budget: In this third of five sessions, we’ll examine the board’s fiduciary role in overseeing the library’s budget. Topics will include an overview of the budget process, the connection with the city’s budget, and state laws regarding accountability of public funds.
This series of 5 online classes covers the 5 major responsibilities of library boards. Throughout this series, we'll discuss the board’s role in the library operation, including hiring the director, developing policy, overseeing the budget, planning, and advocacy. Because Iowa library boards are considered “administrative,” these classes will help boards better understand their roles and responsibilities.
Individual attendance at any of these online sessions helps the library meet Standard #15: "...all members of the library board of trustees participate in continuing education each year..."
