More than 230 Iowa librarians from across Iowa took part in this year's Kids First Conference, "The Stories We Tell." The event was held Monday April 29 and Tuesday 30 in Urbandale. See photos. Merri Monks, Iowa Library Services youth services consultant, was in charge of the event.
Keynote speakers were Dr. Dipesh Navsaria (Books Build Better Brains), author Trent Reedy (Inshallah: Finding Something Better in a Trouble World), author Dori Hillestad Butler (Five Lessons Learned from a Lifetime of Writing), and author John Corey Whaley (The Bird is the Word).
Session goers had to choose from the more than 30 breakout classes held during the two day conference. A storytelling session was held Monday evening.
Kids First is a conference for youth librarians sponsored by Iowa Library Services/State Library in the spring of odd-numbered years. It is funded through the Hazel Westgate Endowment and by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by Iowa Library Services/State Library.
