Watercolor Exhibit at the State Library in March 2009

Wayne Peterson is the father of State Library staffer Jay Peterson.

Thirty years after graduating with an Art Degree from Wayne State College, Wayne Peterson realized that he should try his hand at watercolor.   "It was never a medium I even considered until a friend invited me to a class," said Peterson.  Within a month, he was hooked.   Peterson, a five-year resident of Des Moines, Iowa, enjoyed all forms of art, but pottery, sculpture and acrylics were his main focus in college.  "I find watercolor to be both challenging and relaxing at the same time," said Peterson.   He gives most of his paintings away as gifts to appreciative friends and family.  "I wanted to leave a legacy and I guess I have found a way to do that."   He currently resides in Bolingbrook, Illinois.

Peterson's art will be on exhibit in March 2009 at the State Library of Iowa. The Library is located at the corner of E. 12th and Grand Ave. in the Ola Babcock Miller Building, Des Moines. Hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. For information, call 515-281-4102, 800-248-4483, or e-mail is@lib.state.ia.us.
