2009 Iowa Library Trustee's Handbook available
Will be mailed to public libraries early next week.
The 2009 Iowa Library Trustee Handbook, last published in 2003, has been updated and includes new topics such as the special library levy, the library's relationship with the city, library funding inequities and library salaries.
The handbooks will be mailed around February 1. Public libraries will each receive two free copies, one for the director and one for the trustee chairperson. Additional copies can be purchased for $6 each from the State Library. Contact Fran Fessler.
The purpose of the handbook is to give trustees a basic understanding of their responsibilities and power. It contains useful, practical information about developing policy, the board/director relationship, funding, intellectual freedom, library laws and many other topics.
