Sign up now for State Library's December classes
"EBSCOhost and EBSCO Resources," December 3 or 8; also "Using the Iowa Workforce Development Web site," December 11 or 15.
The State Library of Iowa will offer "Overview of EBSCOhost and EBSCO Resources" from 1 to 2 p.m. December 3 and 10 to 11 a.m. December 8.
Classes will offer an overview of the features of EBSCOhost with a focus on effective searching, retrieving and manipulating results. Additional topics include a review of Citing References, My Folder and Creating Alerts, and creative ways to market EBSCO host to your patrons and increase remote use of the databases.
Library directors and staff who wish to learn more about EBSCO are invited. The class will be offered online using Adobe Connect Web meeting software. This product is new to the State Library but Adobe Connect is very similar to Wimba.
It's recommended that students have headphones with attached microphones. Students can still listen in to the presentation without a mic but will be limited to only asking questions via chat box inside the classroom.
To register, visit http://www.statelibraryofiowa.org/cgi-bin/cecat/ and Search the term EBSCO for the course listing.
In response to requests, the State Library is sponsoring an online class - "Using the Iowa Workforce Development Web site." Attend on either December 11 or December 15. Registration is available in the CE catalog.
Members of the community are asking library staff to help them navigate the Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) Web site as they search for jobs and learn about filing for unemployment. During this session, library staff will learn how to find information more easily on the IWD Web site. The presenters are IWD staff who use the Web site every day.
