Readers' Maps

Readers' Maps are a new way to create book lists for readers.  The typical "read alike" book list is usually a list of books for a just one facet of a title and generally focuses on fiction.  A Readers' Map, on the other hand, attempts to identify a number of appeal factors for a particular title and then create book lists for each of those appeal factors, often incorporating nonfiction as well as fiction.  Click here for an example of a Readers' Map.

Below are the guidelines for creating a Readers' Map for the Adventures in Storytelling class:

  1. For each title, identify at least three appeal factors, including one factor that would include nonfiction titles.
  2. Create a book list of at least four titles for each appeal factor.
  3. Go to the Iread wiki and log into the site.  The password is "readers."
  4. Next, click on Readers' Journeys and then Readers' Map.
  5. Click on Edit Page and add your title and information, following the format on the page.  Create a new page for your title by either using brackets around the title or highlighting the title and clicking on new page in the editor.
  6. Write a brief plot summary of the title and then add your book lists on the new page.
