Readers' Maps
Readers' Maps are a new way to create book lists for readers. The typical "read alike" book list is usually a list of books for a just one facet of a title and generally focuses on fiction. A Readers' Map, on the other hand, attempts to identify a number of appeal factors for a particular title and then create book lists for each of those appeal factors, often incorporating nonfiction as well as fiction. Click here for an example of a Readers' Map.
Below are the guidelines for creating a Readers' Map for the Adventures in Storytelling class:
- For each title, identify at least three appeal factors, including one factor that would include nonfiction titles.
- Create a book list of at least four titles for each appeal factor.
- Go to the Iread wiki and log into the site. The password is "readers."
- Next, click on Readers' Journeys and then Readers' Map.
- Click on Edit Page and add your title and information, following the format on the page. Create a new page for your title by either using brackets around the title or highlighting the title and clicking on new page in the editor.
- Write a brief plot summary of the title and then add your book lists on the new page.
