EBSCOhost
EBSCOhost is a comprehensive, reference database with over 1,000 business publications, 5,000 company profiles, 1,100 health pamphlets, 225 full-text newspapers, 91,000 images and maps, 88,000 biographies, and 160 reference and travel books. Content includes information on business, health, multi-cultural issues, music, politics, history, geography and science, as well as key children's magazines.
EBSCOhost can be accessed in the library, at school, in the office, or at home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
FY12 (July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012)
As previously announced, EBSCOhost will continue to be the statewide periodical and reference database that will be supported by the State Library of Iowa. The State Library will continue to subsidize EBSCOhost for Iowa libraries to make it available to all Iowans through their libraries. As in past years, the State Library will ask libraries to share in the cost.
Since we are starting a new contract effective July 1, 2011, invoices will be mailed on or after July 1 with payment due after that date. If your library currently participates in EBSCOhost, you don't need to do anything at this time.
The pricing formula for FY12 beginning July 1 will include a base amount plus an amount per person as follows:
- Academic Libraries: Base amount of $500 plus 40 cents per FTE student. Enrollment figures for Fall 2010 will be used to determine the number of FTE students.
- Public Libraries: Base amount of $25 plus four cents per capita. Population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census will be used to determine the population.
- Special Libraries: Base amount of $500 plus 40 cents per current number of FTE employees.
If your library does not participate in EBSCOhost, join by completing and returning the sign up form below.
This program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by Iowa Library Services/State Library of Iowa.
