Session 1 - Reading Assignment
Please come to class prepared to discuss the following information. Assigned Web sites require you to read and familiarize yourself with the home page and then browse through the site, unless specifically asked to read certain pages. You are not required to read everything on the site. Articles should be read in their entirety.
- Your library's local ordinance - Please bring a copy of it to class
- Iowa Public Library Director’s Handbook, Introduction, Chapters 1-2, model ordinance, p. 75-78; sample bylaws, p. 79
- Iowa Library Trustee’s Handbook, Chapters 1, 2, 6, 13 and p. 58-59.
- Iowa Code -- 392.5 - This link will take you to the Iowa General Assembly Publications page. Click on the Iowa Code Advanced Search button, listed at the top under Iowa Code heading. In the top box, type in 392.5 and then click on the Search button at the bottom. Click on Library Board to bring up the text of the law.
- Iowa's Open Meetings, Open Records Handbook Web site, published by the Iowa Freedom of Information Council - Rules of Thumb and Introduction. [You will also receive a copy of the Handbook in class.]
