Session 7 - Written Assignment
This written assignment should be done following the class meeting. You will receive information in that class that will help with the assignment.
All written assignments must be typed using a word processor. If you have access to Microsoft Word, please use that and send it to your instructor via e-mail as an attachment. If you need to use another type of word processor (such as Microsoft Works or Word Perfect), please cut and paste your assignment into an e-mail and send it that way.
Written assignment for Session 7:
To keep library materials in good shape, libraries process them by adding covers and cases. These can be placed on the items by the vendor or done in-house by the library. Assume the average cost of purchasing processing for each new book from the vendor is $0.50. Using the most recent library supply catalog (Demco, Brodart, Gaylord, etc.) you have, calculate your cost in-house to process a book. Be sure to include employee time per item. Which is more cost effective for you? What would you do with the extra money and/or staff time that would result from your conclusion?
