Endow Iowa      Endow Iowa and County Endowment Fund Encourage Philanthropy “Endow Iowa” and the state's County Endowment Fund programs are encouraging philanthropic activities throughout Iowa by providing grants directly to community foundations (or affiliates), and providing tax credits to donors who make contributions to community foundations. Endow Iowa was created to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of this state through increased philanthropic activity by encouraging new investments to existing community foundations and facilitating the creation of new community foundations. The state legislature has authorized $2,000,000 for the 2005 Endow Iowa Tax Credit Program available for donors seeking tax credits.  The County Endowment Fund directs state gambling revenues to “qualified” community foundations (or affiliates) located in counties that do not have state-licensed gambling facilities. Currently, 85 Iowa counties are without gaming. One half of one percent of the state's gambling revenues will provide approximately $5,573,294 for the County Endowment Program. The funds will be distributed to community foundations (or affiliates).  Seventy-five percent of the amount will be sent by the community foundations through to nonprofit organizations serving countywide needs. The remaining twenty-five percent will be retained in the county's community foundation endowment funds. Nonprofit institutions interested in applying for these funds can obtain community foundation contact information on the Iowa Department of Economic Development web site http://www.iowalifechanging.com/endowiowa/index.html.  For a list of qualified foundations and application information, click on Qualified Foundations in the left margin on the Endow Iowa web site.  Additional Resources:  Iowa Council of Foundations http://www.iowacounciloffoundations.org,  319.287.9106;  Iowa Department of Economic Development http://www.independentsector.org/AnnualConference/2005/Program.html,  515.242.4711; Community Vitality Center http://www.cvcia.org/, 515.294.3000 Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center http://inrc.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu,  319.335.9765 or 866.500.8980  9/05
