How To: Add Your SILO E-mail Account to Outlook 2010
If you are running Outlook for the first time and you are starting from the setup wizard please skip down to step 3.
Account Setup
- Click the File tab
- Click the +Add Account button
- Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types
- Click Next
- Select Internet E-mail
- Enter the following settings:
- Your Name: Firstname Lastname
- E-mail address: user@cityname.lib.ia.us
- Account type: IMAP
- Incoming mail server: smail.silo.lib.ia.us
- Outgoing mail server: smail.silo.lib.ia.us
- User Name: your full email address
- Password: your email password
- Click the More Settings button
- Click the Outgoing Server Tab
- Place a check mark in My outgoing server (smtp) requires authentication
- Click the Advanced tab
- Select TLS from BOTH dropdown menus in the Server Ports section (ports -- IMAP:143 and SMTP:587)
- Click ok
- Click next
- Click the close button once the account settings test completes.
- Click Finish
Additional Setup Steps
Subscribing to IMAP folders:
- Open Outlook 2010
- Right click on your account name user@cityname.lib.ia.us
- Select IMAP folders
- Click on the Query button
- Select all folders that show up in the All tab (select the first folder, hold down the shift key, and then use the down arrow key to highlight all folders down to the bottom)
- Click on the Subscribe button
- Click the Apply button
- Click the Ok button
Set Outlook to move items to your account trash folder
- Open Outlook 2010
- Click the File tab
- Click the Account Settings button
- Select Account settings
- Click the name of your account (likely name@cityname.lib.ia.us)
- Click the Change button
- Click More Settings
- Click the Deleted items tab
- Select Move deleted items to the following folder on the server
- Select the Trash folder that shows up under your name@cityname.lib.ia.us account in the window
- Click OK
- Click Next
- Click Close
- Click Finish
- Click Close
