How to Create an Email Rule to Redirect Email to an External Account

In this guide you are shown how to setup a rule to redirect email to an external account. This is the option you want if you would still like to have the ability to log into the account to send messages. If you do not need to send message as this account setting up a new group

may be a better option. You will need admin privileges to create a new group whereas any user can create an account rule as follows to redirect mail.

  1. Log in to webmail
  2. Click on the Rules link (upper right hand corner of the screen)
  3. Click Create a New Rule
  4. Enter a Rule Name for your rule
  5. Select "When one of the To: or the CC: addresses" option from the Conditions drop down menu
  6. Enter the email address you want to act as the forwarder in the one of these strings text box (this will be the PLOW email address - @townname.lib.ia.us that you want to forward from)
  7.  Click the Add Condition button
  8. Click the Next button
  9. Select the Action: Forward the message to from the Action drop down menu
  10. Enter your external email address in the Email: text box (this will be your external address like user@gmail.com)
  11. Click the Add action button
  12. Click the Save button (lower right hand corner of the screen)
    • You will be returned to the main Rules window and you will now see your new rule show up in the Current Rules box
  13. Click the Close button to return to webmail
