One of the checks done on each record sent to SILO Locator is to verify that the format type indicated in the leader field agrees with the format type specified in the title field and the description field. If all format types do not agree it could be the result of using a cataloging template that does not match the item. For example, library staff may use a cataloging template for a magazine, but enter in data for a book. This is often the case when library staff are adding items "on the fly".
RECOMMENDATION: Notify library about the records and explain probable cause. Library staff will need to modify behavior and/or work flow so that chosen template matches item to be cataloged. If library staff need help to set up additional templates or in choosing the template encourage staff to contact the vendor of the cataloging utility. Encourage library staff to replace "on the fly" records with a full MARC record.
