Setting up E-mail for the Library Service Areas

The SILO CommuniGate Pro e-mail server offers additional functionality for the Library Service Areas.  Both IMAP and Outlook with MAPI are available.  Instructions for both can be found under the IMAP and Outlook with MAPI folders.

IMAP

IMAP provides more capabilities for keeping e-mail on the server.  You are able to create folders and organize your e-mail into them.  Since all e-mail is stored on the server, it gets backed up nightly.  Should anything happen to your computer, installing a new e-mail client will download the messages just as you left them.  IMAP can be configured in Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, and Mozilla Thunderbird.

Outlook with MAPI

The MAPI Connector is similar to IMAP, but it also includes groupware features including shared calendars.  It only works with Microsoft Outlook.  The MAPI Connector software must be downloaded from the e-mail server vendor.
