How To: Add Your SILO E-mail Account to Outlook
While Outlook Express is bundled with Windows XP, Microsoft Outlook is a separate product. It is usually included in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Initial Configuration
- Start Microsoft Outlook.
- From the Tools menu, select the E-mail Accounts... option.
- Select the Add a new e-mail account option.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select the IMAP option.
- Click on the Next button.
- In the Your name: field, enter your full name.
- In the E-Mail address: field, enter your full e-mail
address, e.g. username@cityname.lib.ia.us
- In the Incoming mail server (IMAP): field, enter mail.cityname.lib.ia.us where cityname is the name of your city as it appears in your domain name.
- In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP): field, enter mail.cityname.lib.ia.us where cityname is the name of your city as it appears in your domain name.
- In the User Name: field, enter your full e-mail address, e.g. username@cityname.lib.ia.us
- In the Password: field, enter your password.
- If you would like Outlook to start without prompting for a password, check the Remember password checkbox.
- Click on the More Settings button.
- Select the Outgoing Server tab.
- Check the My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
- Verify that the Use same settings as my incoming mail server option is selected.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- In the Outgoing Server (SMTP): field, enter 587
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
Additional Settings That Should Be Changed
- Pull-down the Tools menu and select the Options...
option.
- Select the Mail Format tab.
- From the Compose in this format menu, select the Plain Text option.
- Verify that the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages option is unchecked.
- Verify that the Use Microsoft Word to read Rich Text e-mail
messages option is unchecked.
- Click on the OK button.
