Submit a Request

  1. Search the SILO Locator.
  2. Display the long record of the item to be borrowed.
  3. Click on the Interlibrary Loan Request Form button at the top of the page.
  4. The request form containing the bibliographic information and the lender string will appear on screen. If necessary, modify the form to add comments and change the not needed after date.
    • Lenders have been selected according to State of Iowa Interlibrary Loan protocols.  The system-generated lender string should be accepted in most cases.  The lender string can be modified by pulling down the location menu.
    • Use the comments field to include additional information on a loan request.  For example, the comments field can be used to specify an OCLC accession number, the specific format of an item such as large print, or the specific edition of an item.
  5. (Optional for public libraries) Check the Send request to referral library as last choice box if the request is not filled by any of the potential lenders in the lending string.
  6. (Optional) If an item is believed to be non-circulating, enter in the maximum dollar amount you will pay in the If non-circulating, and cost does not exceed field.
    1. Check the box to indicate Microfilm or a Hard copy preference.
  7. When form is complete click on the Submit ILL Request button at the bottom of the screen.  The Loan Confirmation will appear.
  8. Print the request to have a record of the transaction number.

Note:    Do not use the browser’s Back button on the confirmation page.  The system may generate a duplicate loan request.
