Match and merge records

The records in the search queue are searched against the SILO Locator. The search is performed using a standard number as a match point first, or if no standard number is present, a title search is performed.
The search results are displayed along with a statement about how many matching records were found.
  1. Carefully review the records in the results list. Look for a record that matches the item described by your record.  Pay close attention to, and look for matching standard number, title, author,   description, copyright date, publisher
  2. If a record is displayed that matches your item, select it by clicking in the radio button beside the record. The first record is always automatically selected.
  3. Click Add Submission to Locator
  4. If no record in the results list matches your item you can choose from these options:Discard Submission – this action removes the record from the Exception List. The record is NOT added to the SILO Locator. Search Again – this option allows you to perform a different search in the SILO Locator. For example, if a standard number search yielded unsatisfactory results, try searching by title. Follow the steps above to select a matching record on which to attach your library’s holding.
  5. Add as New Title – This forces the record to be added to the SILO Locator as a new title. These records will appear in the SILO Locator after the 10th day of the next month.

Exception List Status - A current status gauge appears on each search page. Use this to keep track of your work on the Exception List.
