Overview of the SILO Locator File Upload System

1.                  Library uploads file of MARC records to be added to the SILO Locator.

2.                  SILO preprocesses the records. Preprocessing includes de-duping, merging like records together, sorting records, and deleting serial and electronic records.

3.                  Records meeting the MARC Record Input Standards are loaded into the SILO Locator with records loaded either as a new title or with holdings added to existing records.

4.                  Records not meeting the MARC Record Input Standards are listed as Exceptions.

5.                  Library checks for Exceptions by logging into SILO ILL.

6.                  Library works through exceptions by searching, adding, editing or deleting records.

7.                  Records that have been worked on are re-processed and added to the Locator, either as a holding to existing records or new title.
