How to Search for Items in Plone

The Search Box

The Search box is available on every page. It is usually located in the upper right corner.

  1. Enter a search term in the search box
  2. Click on the search button

Advanced Search

The Advanced search feature allows you to enter various search criteria

  1. Without entering a search term, click on the search button
  2. Click on the Advanced Search link. Use the following criteria to manage your search and results:
    • Search Text - For a simple text search, enter your search term here. Multiple words may be found by combining them with AND and OR. The text in this field will be matched with items' contents, title and description
    • Title - Return items matching this title
    • Keywords - Return items matching some or all of these keywords. Multiple words may be found by pressing Ctrl (or Apple key on Mac) while clicking the keywords
    • Description - Return items matching this description. Multiple words may be found by combining them with AND and OR
    • New Items Since - Return items added since you were last logged on, the last week, etc. Use the drop down menu to select time
    • Item type - Return items of a specific type. Use the checkboxes to Select All/None
    • Author - Return items created by a particular person. Use the drop down menu to select an author
    • Review status - You may search for items based on their review state. If you wish to constrain results to items in certain states, select them from this list
  3. At the bottom of the page click on the search button

Browse

There are several ways to browse the site.

Site Map

  1. Click on the site map link - An overview of the available content on this site. Keep the pointer still over an item for a few seconds to get its description.
  2. Click on an item to view it

Breadcrumb Trail

  1. Plone keeps track of where you are on the site.
  2. Look for the breadcrumb trail in the upper left.
  3. Use this trail to find a particular item.

Navigation Portlet

  1. The Navigation Portlet is the left slot. The contents of the Navigation Portlet allow you to quickly move around the site
  2. Click on an item on the left

Tabs

  1. The Tabs are located across the top of all pages. Use the tabs to choose a particular section of the site. The tabs are created from content in the Navigation Portlet.
  2. Click on a tab at the top of the page
