Elements of a Plone Page

All Plone pages contain a number of common elements. The following image shows a Plone page with all the key user interface elements marked.

Elements of a Plone Page

1. Site Logo
Shows a logo image on the top of every page. On some PLOW skins the logo is optional. If a logo isn't available, the name of the web site appears instead. On other PLOW skins the logo is a banner image that fills the full width of the header.
2. Search Form
Shows a search form that searches the entire web site. If the user's browser has JavaScript enabled, the "Live Search" feature will return search results instantly as the user types. Matches appear below the search box without changing the current page.
3. Portal Tabs
Shows the tabs across the top of the site
4. Personal Bar
Shows authors personal links for their account, including links to their author overview page, home page, undo changes form, and logout.
5. Breadcrumbs
Displays the location of the current content within the site.
6. Left Slot
Displays all portlets assigned to the left slot. On PLOW sites the left slot contains the navigation portlet on every page except the home page.
7. Content Tabs
Shows the actions authors can take for a specific piece of content. Common content tabs are contents, view, edit, properties, and sharing.
8. Content Drop-down Lists
Shows authors some drop-down menus for the current content, workflow and available content types. Common content menus include actions, display, add to folder, and state.
9. Document Actions
Shows all users the actions available for this particular piece of content. Common document actions include e-mail this page and print this page.
10. By-line
Shows the authors, contributors, and last updated date for the current content. On PLOW sites the by-line is disabled, so authors are not associated with each piece of content.
11. Right Slot
Displays all portlets assigned to the right slot. On PLOW sites the right slot contains the calendar portlet and the upcoming events portlet. The upcoming events portlet only displays when at least one upcoming event has been published on the site.
12. Footer
Shows information at the bottom of every page. On PLOW sites the footer contains links to the Ask a Librarian form, the community folder, the contact us folder, the local catalog, and the support our library folder.
13. Colophon
Shows more information below the footer. On PLOW sites the colophon has been disabled.
