The State Library collects data from public libraries. Click on the links to the left for statistics and the annual survey. These statistics are helpful when libraries want to:

compare their own library activity and use from year to year
compare information from libraries of similar size
obtain statistics to support budget requests
analyze the needs of and changes in their community
plan for how the library will serve the community in the future

Special Library Survey

The State Library conducted a special survey in January 2009 to assess the effects of the current economic conditions on libraries. SURVEY RESULTS (pdf) are posted in graphical form. STATISTICAL HISTORY (pdf) on the use of Iowa Public Libraries over the past 10 years is also posted.
