On Any Given Day...(in my library)
One morning in June I was returning to my office from a meeting outside the building and in the time it took to cross the foyer I observed how citizens use the Sioux City Public Library throughout the year:
A line of three and four year olds, in matching red t-shirts, were joining hands to walk out the door. Their day-care group had just enjoyed a library storytime.
Two elementary-age children were experimenting with a CD-ROM on the library's computer while their mom wrote in her checkbook at a nearby children's room table.
A gentleman I recognized as owner/manager of a local business leaned against a railing while reading a current magazine.
One white-haired woman and her two adult daughters laughed and talked with each other while pulling books-on-tape from the shelves (selecting these items for an upcoming trip, perhaps?).
"I'll transfer you to the Reference Desk," I heard a staff member say into the telephone. "The librarians can find that information for you."
People do, indeed, use the Sioux City Public Library for a variety of reasons. And because we want tomorrow's visit to be as satisfying as today's, the library will continue to integrate the
most-used traditional library services with new resources, keeping pace with changing trends, to provide you with the services you expect from your community resource center.
