Library Corner: Activities at the Sac City Library

There have been television stories and articles written recently about the effects of sleep deprivation. The loss of sleep is especially harmful to toddlers, young children and teens. The loss of sleep can also cause problems with adults. Child psychologists and therapists agree that the lack of sleep can cause toddlers and young children to be irritable and cause them to display many acts of bad behavior. For the younger school age child and teens, problems with their attention spans and disruptive behavior can cause learning problems. There is a problem of feeling ill, such as a headache or a stomachache.

Adults also experience irritability, headaches, stomachaches and just an incredible feeling of being very tired and achy. These same psychologists recommend earlier bedtimes, no TV sets or computers in the bedroom, and READING to your child or having them read to you 15 minutes before bedtime. It is an excellent method of relaxing and winding down before going to bed. Teenagers and adults are also encouraged to read before going to bed.

Changes to cause change. Make a change for the better. Read.
