2004 CSLP Summer Library Program – Discover New Trails @ Your Library
The manuals, incentives forms and free resource book have all been mailed to the libraries. This years incentive form has a “sliding” ordering schedule, so if you make you initial order early you will get delivery earlier. Libraries will also have the chance to order later. The workshop dates and sites have all been finalized. Cathy and Missy are meeting regularly and plan to have their final plans ready by December 1. Terri Tesch has volunteered to make the crafts from the manual for display at the workshops. Liz Trippler is assembling a bibliography of Lewis and Clark books. The ILA Booth was a big hit with Roy Rogers and still seems to be a great way to promote the summer library program theme.
2004 YA Summer Library Program
The YA SLP Workshop will be March 11 from 9-11. Mary has not scheduled the ICN sites yet. Maria has looked at the notes from last year’s session and noticed there were lots of comments about using volunteers and using YAs as volunteers, so she is going to include that in the workshop this year. Mary is going to post a message about the YA workshop and information librarians want from the workshop after January 1. Also, we want to hear success stories from last year’s program.
2005 CSLP Summer Library Program – Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds
Patti Sinclair, the author and editor of the manual has requested submissions and Mary distributed that information on the youth services mail list and at ILA. No chapters are ready yet. Marilyn Tilley reminded everyone with left over costume sales for Halloween librarians could find some bargains to use for SLP. She also mentioned that Oriental Trading has a set of puppets with a king, queen, knight, dragon, etc. for $14.00. Mary asked Marilyn to post this information on the website and that these puppets would be a good giveaway for the ILA booth.
Westgate Lecture
The location for the Westgate Lecture will be the Stoney Creek Inn – 5291 NW 84th Street , Johnston , Iowa 50131 . The Westgate Lecture will be done in partnership with the Iowa Department of Education and Iowa Public Television. Lunch will be provided. On Thursday, April 15 everyone will have a chance to attend breakout sessions through out the day. Both days will provide opportunities for librarian to connect with other professionals that work with children. A tentative theme is “Early Literacy Content and Connections Conference.” Registration tentatively will be $15.00 for one day and $20.00 for both days. Flyers should be ready by January.
