The manuals will be getting sent out in the mail today.  There is a reminder with the incentive form of items that are not available.  The first round of incentive ordering was due last week and items could have been ordered online, or printed and mailed to Highsmith.

There will be a free resource to go with this year’s theme called “After School Treats,” by Tami Chumbley and Crystal Kehoe.  It will be coming in the packet with the manuals.

At ILA a flyer was passed out with the dates and locations for the summer library workshops.  Registration for all workshops will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the program from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  Morning refreshments will be served. Three (3) hours of continuing education will be available.  Workshop locations and dates are:

Linda Fox and Marilyn Tilley are the presenters for this year.  Marilyn said there is a lot of information and they are trying to condense it into a 3 hour program. Eileen Redinger is doing the crafts this year and the crafts they have seen are great!

Mary wanted to thank everyone who helped in the booth at ILA.  Next year we will have two booths like this year.  It seemed to work out great.  CYP is trying to book Jim Gill to do two breakout sessions at ILA in Dubuque .

Sally Van Dorin is busy with the Planning and Programming portion of the manual.  Please send her ideas.  She will hold the ICN session March 17 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.   Sandy Dixon is working on the State Library webpage for registrations and Jackie Kokke is working on ICN sites for this session.

2005 Joust Read

On Thursday, March 10, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Maria will present the 2005 YA Workshop over the ICN.    ICN sites are still being chosen for this workshop and registration information will be sent out over Iowalib at a later date.  Maria is very pleased with the manual.  She said it is very adaptable for all sizes and type of libraries.  She thought maybe the ClipArt was lacking a little bit.  The artwork by Doug Keith was gorgeous!  She will be doing a session at Kids First this year.  Mary suggested that next year we needed to do a better job at promoting the YA Workshop at the ILA booth.

2006 Reading Program

Mary Cameron is the Manual Chair this year and said there hasn’t been much done with the manual yet, but chapters should start arriving soon. The 2005 Collaborative website is not up and running right now.  They are in the process of updating and it will be back up in January.

Kids First 2005

Kid First will be held Thursday & Friday April 28 & 29, 2005 at Four Points Sheraton on Merle Hay Road .

Keynote speakers will be Gene Del Vecchio, “Making the Library a Cool Place for Kids” on Thursday morning and the Friday keynote speaker is still undecided.  Mary originally wanted to have Department of Education Director Ted Stillwell, but he retired.  The Governor has recently appointed a new DE Director, Judy Jeffrey, and Mary may go with that original idea.  Mary had asked two people from Hennipen County to present on “Making Your Library a Kid Magnet, but they have not yet accepted the invitation.

Annette would like to get started on the Kids First flyer in January so we need a theme as soon as possible.  Here are some suggestions that you have sent into Mary.  Please look them over and send her your final thought.  No Library Left Behind; Libraries Have Everything; Putting Your Best Book Forward; Libraries – Through the Ages – For All Ages; The Librarian – A Walking, Talking Billboard; Chillin’ @ the Library; and  Telling Our Stories – To Kids & For Kids.  This is the list we have compiled so far, if you have additions please send them to Mary Cameron also.

The Thursday breakout sessions are pretty well set, but Friday still has some openings.  Mary said she might be calling on some of you to do sessions.
