The Youth Services Advisory Committee met via the ICN on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at 11:30 am. Mary Cameron made introductions at each ICN location. She also announced that Sally Van Dorin has gone back to teaching and is no longer at the Indianola Public Library. She welcomed Angie Martin-Schwarze, Youth Services Coordinator for the Des Moines Public Library. Angie introduced herself to the group.
Minutes from the May 9, 2006 meeting were accepted as written.
Mary Cameron asked the group to consider conducting future meetings via telephone rather than the ICN due to costs. The committee will be given a 1-800 number to call to connect to the conference. Protocol for how the phone conference will be conducted will be sent to the Committee prior to the November meeting. Most agreed this would be a good idea. Beth Marie suggested that one face-to-face meeting or an ICN once a year be conducted so new members would be recognized. Mary Cameron suggested that it is time for the group to meet face-to-face again and that this meeting should be more about policy and philosophy than the regular meetings.
2007 Reading
Program Update: The Get a Clue @ Your
Library and YNK @ your library manuals are done.
Susan Mast, Jane McGrane and Eileen Redinger all contributed to the Get
a Clue manual. Maria once again authored
the teen manual. Karen Day showed samples of the manuals and fliers wearing the
costume that she will wear at ILA. She
explained that this year both manuals (different colors) will be in one packet
and dividers will be inserted between chapters.
Incentive order forms will be 16 pages this year. December 1 will be the first cut off date to
order and those should be back to librarians by March
1.
The Collaborative has a Web site, www.cslpreads.org and the State Library had a link on its Web site. Cathy and Katie met Monday to work on next years workshops and asked for suggestions from the Committee. Karen Day also let the Committee know that the banner will be displayed at the ILA booth. Joa asked if Karen would read the chapter headings. Karen read and showed them to the Committee. The chapter information for both manuals is also on the State Library Web site.
Carmen Epstein and Mary will be meeting after the YSAC meeting about the teen workshops. There is going to be a teen banner this year also and Mary mention that hopefully in the future teen t-shirts will be sent in the promotional package also.
Mary Cameron sent out a schedule for people to help at the ILA booth.
