STATUS:                         
Permanent Full Time

SHIFT:                             
8:00 a.m. –  4:30 p.m.  Monday to Friday
Some overnight travel and occasional evenings and weekends 

DESCRIPTION:              
The State Library of Iowa is seeking applicants for the position of Library Consultant for Youth Services.  This position will coordinate and/or conduct conferences and workshops related to youth services; oversee development and production of the summer library program for Iowa libraries; provide consulting to librarians on all aspects of youth services in libraries.  The position is available immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS:        
A Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited school of Library Science and three years of full-time professional librarian experience, one year of which must have been at a large municipal, regional or state level in library networking, library construction or renovation, continuing education or professional standards for librarians, children's or specials services populations;
OR
an undergraduate degree from an accredited four year college or university and four years of full-time professional experience in education, educational media, or computerized systems analysis;
OR
an equivalent combination of the required education and experience, substituting a Master's degree in Education or Computer Science for the Master's degree in Library Science or for one year of the required experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:        
Experience working in a small, rural library; previous consulting experience; familiarity with the public library’s role in early literacy.
