Kids First 2009

The Kids First Conference for 2009 is scheduled for April  27, 28 and 29
at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames, Iowa.


Monday, April 27, Pre-Conference

 

Jane CobbWe are so pleased to announce that our Pre-Conference Speaker will be Jane Cobb. If you work with preschool children, chances are that you're more than familiar with Jane Cobb's fantastic resource I'm a Little Teapot: Presenting Preschool Storytime. Jane Cobb's new book What'll I Do with the Baby-o? Nursery Rhymes, Songs, and Stories for Babies is sure to become a similar staple for anyone providing early literacy programming.

The Pre-Conference on Monday, April 27 will be devoted entirely to storytimes - for preschoolers, for toddlers and for babies.

Anita SilveyAnita Silvey
Children's and Teen Literature Expert.  Her most recent title, 500 Great Books for Teens, is a long-awaited and valuable guide in reader's advisory and book selection for that most difficult genre.

Michele GormanMichele Gorman

Teen Services Coordinator for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She oversees teen services at 24 branch libraries. In addition to working full time as a teen librarian, she's a national speaker, and certified by the Young Adult Library Services Association. She's on the YALSA Board of Directors.  She co-wrote Connecting Young Adults and Libraries with Patrick Jones and Tricia Sullentrop.  Other books include Getting Graphic! Comics for Kids, and Using Graphic Novels to Promote Literacy with Preteens and Teens. She's one of four "Teenage Riot" columnists for School Library Journal, and is the "Getting Graphic" Columnist for Library Media Connection.
