Barb Meckstroth's Colorful Art Work
Former state employee, Barb Meckstroth's work will be displayed at the State Library during the month of July, 2008. Here is Barb's biography:
I have lived in Iowa since I was in the 6th grade, moving from Luverne, MN to Waverly in the fall of 1957. I graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock HS, attended Cottey College in Neveda, MO and then graduated with a BS in Education from Wartburg College in Waverly.
My husband, Larry, and I married in 1970 and lived in Charles City in northeast Iowa. Due to a job opportunity in the Des Moines area, my family, which now included our 2-year-old daughter, Haley, moved to Ankeny 22 years ago. I began working for the Department of Human Services in January, 1990 and retired in December, 2007.
I took several art courses in college, but never became a serious artist until recently. I have struggled to discover the true artist within, trying out a variety of techniques and styles. and studying other artists' work. Eventually I developed my own personal style. I have a great love of drama and color, and enjoy creating a vivid interchange of shape and hue on paper and canvas. The style of work I enjoy the most is abstract.
I am excited to be able to share some of my work with both state workers and the public.
