Pfitzenmaier named to Iowa Commission of Libraries
Ted Stilwill, director of the Department of Education, has announced that Pamela Pfitzenmaier from Iowa Public Television (IPTV) will serve as the department's representative on the Iowa Commission of Libraries. Pam replaces Dwight Carlson, who recently retired from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Pfitzenmaier is director of educational telecommunications at IPTV overseeing the educational mission of the network. Pam has been at IPTV since 1992 where she has served as the Iowa Star School's project director. Before joining IPTV, Pam was Iowa's Ambassador to Education in 1990-91 and Iowa's Teacher of the Year in 1990. During her year as Iowa Ambassador, she visited over 125 Iowa schools, meeting with educators and observing classrooms. Pam was an elementary teacher for 19 years. In addition to her duties at IPTV, Pam serves as a member of the Education Telecommunications Council, an 18-member advisory council dealing with educational telecommunications and technology issues for the state of Iowa. She has served on the boards of the Iowa Distance Learning Association, the Iowa Math and Science Coalition and the Iowa Principal's Academy. From 1991-98 she served as a commissioner from Iowa on the Education Commission of the States. Most recently, Pam was asked by Ted Stilwill to serve as the director of the soon-to-be established Iowa Virtual High School.
Pam earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa and her doctorate in education from the University of Iowa. She holds endorsements as an educational media specialist, an elementary principal and is licensed as an Area Education Agency chief administrator.
