Last modified March 28, 2006 07:40 PM

Applications are now being accepted for the first ever Iowa Library Association Leadership Institute to be held August 3-6, 2004 at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Twenty-five Iowa librarians will be selected to participate in the three-day institute led by Maureen Sullivan.

To be selected you must be an ILA member currently employed in an Iowa library with at least three years of library work experience. A diverse group representing all types of library employment will be chosen. Application deadline is April 1, 2004.

The application form and other information is in the January/February 2004 Catalyst and on the ILA website. http://www.iowalibraryassociation.org

Approximately 75% of the costs of the institute (institute activities, lodging and meals) are paid for through the generosity of donors to be announced later. The fee for each participant is $150. Participants are expected to cover travel costs and miscellaneous expenses. Scholarships may be available to participants.

At the institute you will participate in activities designed to help you:

  1. Recognize yourself as a leader and develop the confidence to become a change agent in your library as well as in the larger community
  2. Assess your personal leadership style and develop the skills to use that style for effective decision making
  3. Seek creative solutions to shape the future of the Iowa Library Association and library service in Iowa
  4. Connect to a supportive network of successful library leaders
